With rains subsiding, the millennium city is grappling with the Herculean task of sanitation and disinfection measures to prevent outbreak of diseases and other health ramifications due to the prolonged waterlogging and flooding across major parts.All administrative wings have been roped in to take part in a massive exercise for sanitisation of localities, including individual households, clearing the refuse and slime sediments left behind by the receding water within the next couple of days. While special teams have been formed to undertake field visits and implement the sanitation and disinfection measures, the district administration has warned of severe action against dereliction of duty by any official.
Collector Girish S N on Sunday held a multi-department and agency coordination meeting to effectively deal with post-Phailin situation. Teams of officials from CMC, district administration, health workers, SHGs, ASHAs and NGO volunteers would make house-to- house visits in the worst affected pockets to distribute water purification items and disinfectants like halazone tablets, bleaching powders and ORS packets to the people.Meanwhile, Urban Development Minister Debi Prasad Mishra held a review meeting on Saturday to gear up the administrative machinery to clear the waterlogging and deal with the situation effectively.
